The Reasons Why I Use Minimalism

In this video, I wanted to talk about 'why' and 'how' I started to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. It all started while I was traveling in 2016. I was a traveling beginner, and I took a lot of items with me. After three months, I realized that the secret to travel was to travel light.

So, as time moved on, I started to get rid of my things using the two following principles:

  1. Get rid of all the things I hadn't used yet.

  2. Get rid of all the "just in case" stuff.

The second category was undoubtedly the most difficult to satisfy. However, to my surprise, I started to have this feeling of lightness, joy, and happiness as I let go of some of my belongings.

I was confused. I thought purchasing new items was supposed to bring happiness?

I remembered a class when I was studying Business in college. Our teacher told us that consumption would bring profit, job opportunities, a better economy and foster positive mental well-being. In other words, we were told that buying 'things' would make us happier. I was shocked.

This experience has made me evaluate purchasing habits in society and encouraged me to reconsider my approach to buying new products.

Here are the youtube Channels or websites of the people I mentioned at the beginning of my video:
